Nicholas Shaxson is the author of Treasure Islands, a book about tax havens published in 2011. He is an Associate Fellow of the UK think tank Chatham House, and he writes for the Tax Justice Network. His previous book was Poisoned Wells: the Dirty Politics of African Oil.

The blog is entitled “Escape from Europe” because its prime focus is on tax havens, or secrecy jurisdictions, as they affect Europe. From my perspective, such jurisdictions offer escape from the responsibilities of society: from tax, from disclosure, from criminal laws, from financial regulations, and so on.
