I am the author of Treasure Islands, a book about tax havens published in 2011. I am a journalist by background, having written for the Financial Times, the Economist and its sister publication the Economist Intelligence Unit, Vanity Fair, and many others. I now write regularly for the Tax Justice Network while continuing to work as a journalist for others. My previous book was Poisoned Wells: the Dirty Politics of African Oil.
The blog is entitled “Escape from Europe” because its prime focus is on tax havens, or secrecy jurisdictions, as they affect Europe. From my perspective, such places offer escape from the responsibilities of society: from tax, from disclosure, from criminal laws, from financial regulations, and so on.
